Once upon a time, there was an elementary school teacher. She taught children for 30 years, and then decided the time had come for a different lifestyle, and a little more sanity.... so she retired. Then life became more exciting than she had imagined.
(Yes, I know this sounds like an AARP commercial!)
Alright, let me try this again. Although teaching involved creativity, my inner "artiste" needed more. So about 6 or 7 years ago, I began designing and making jewelry. At first, everyone in the family (and my friends) all got jewelry for Chanukah, Christmas, birthdays, and Happy Tuesday gifts. But my passion for jewelry designing grew stronger. Next, every outfit needed a piece of jewelry to go with it. Then the stones in the stores started "calling me" to buy them, to use them! So now I had two choices .... build an additional room to house all that wonderful jewelry, or start selling it. (Hmmm, what a choice!) I had my answer when 3 times in one week, people complimented my jewelry and asked where I bought it. It was time to spread my wings and fly, uh, sell.
I believe that designing and making jewelry has become a calling for me. You see, I have had carpal tunnel surgery in both hands because they were going numb as I worked. In addition, I have an ongoing vision impairment that requires me to use a magnifier many times when I work. If I still can't see the bead holes with the magnifier, I just find it by feel. It's time consuming and requires great patience, but I don't mind. Even with these challenges, I love working with beads. And when I'm done, I have a unique creation that I love to share. I hope you will enjoy sharing them with me!
